    The Importance of Cloud and Cybersecurity

    Office 365 and Microsoft 365 price increase

    If you haven’t already heard, we have recently received an update that Office 365 and Microsoft 365 commercial prices will be going up from the 1st March 2022.

    For existing customers, the price increase will take effect from your renewal date.

    We have not received all the details yet, but we wanted to provide you with as much heads up as we can so you can budget and plan accordingly, though please be aware that this could be subject to change.  There will be no changes to pricing for education at this time.

    • Microsoft 365 Business Basic
    • Microsoft 365 Business Premium
    • Office 365 E1
    • Office 365 E3
    • Office 365 E5
    • Microsoft 365 E3

    How to secure your multi-cloud environments

    Over the last decade, cloud computing has fundamentally changed how we use and deploy the technology. As public cloud infrastructure continues to grow, utility-type consumption models offer an attractive solution for enabling businesses to easily scale up and down to meet rapidly changing business needs. Security, however, still needs your absolute attention.

    When securing your multi-cloud environment, you will need to consider:

    • Do they need additional training in order to promote safe and secure use of public, private, and hybrid cloud environments?

    Windows 11 – Important Advice

    Microsoft recently released their latest version of Windows on October 5th called Windows 11 which is being offered as a free download to all compatible computers.  However, after internal testing we would discourage upgrading at the present time.

    Windows 11 is still in its infancy, and as such there are programs that are not yet compatible and bugs that need to be resolved before we can recommend upgrading devices. It is likely to take a few months for the issues to be ironed out and for application vendors to make the relevant updates to their software to be compatible.

    We’ll provide another update in regards to Windows 11 in the New Year. In the meantime, if you have a specific use case, our support team will be happy to discuss this with you.

     

    Our Incredible Virtual Run for Charity

    Nouveau, as part of Axians UK and VINCI, has been participating in a virtual run named the “Incredible Journey” where our employees work together to complete a 4000km route to raise money for charity.

    The race works by tracking exercise using either a phone or wearable device and by adding our distances to our team’s collective goal, calculating our position in the race.

    Our selected charity is MacMillan Cancer Support, along with NSPCC, MIND and Electrical Industries Charity.

    We’re back on the Digital Marketplace, G-Cloud 12

    We are happy to announce that we are continuing to sell a variety of cloud solutions on the Digital Marketplace through G-Cloud 12. Our cloud software solutions include Cloud Backup and our cloud support services include Fortinet Managed Firewall Services and Cloud Infrastructure Network Services.

    Selling on G-Cloud 12 means that buying services will be faster, cheaper, and more efficient in comparison to entering individual procurement contracts.

    VPN Security and Other Systems to Work From Home Safely – Same Security Everywhere

    The current coronavirus pandemic has led to organisations having to develop new strategies allowing their employees to continue working but now from home, and as effectively as possible. With the increase of remote workers, we are now starting to see an increase in online security threats as a result.

    Remote access can be handled through protocols such as Windows remote desktop (also known as Windows RDP)– allowing users to access a remote desktop within the company’s internal network. The drawback of this platform is that it allows your employees to access your company’s network by opening your network to the entire internet. Thus increasing the risk of security breaches.

    Thankfully there is a way to allow organisations to provide employees secure access to company network resources without leaving it vulnerable and open to security attacks. This is done through VPN technology (Virtual Private Networks).

    More about VPN Systems

    A VPN – short for Virtual private network provides a secure link between employees and businesses by encrypting and scanning data. Dependent on the method of termination used and in conjunction with a UTM device there are further security benefits to be made.  For e.g. malicious software such as viruses can be detected and mitigated.

    To avoid security risks companies should ensure they are set up to capture metrics about the performance and availability of their VPN services. Ask yourself “When was the last time you took the time to look at your VPN logs?” This process will allow you to detect any compromises of VPN connections and accounts. In principle, now is the time where it is easier to spot compromised accounts, with employees working from home you should be able to spot any irregular VPN usage pattern for each user working from home.

    Here’s a deeper look at how a VPN (Virtual private network) works. A VPN uses encryption and other security mechanisms to scramble (otherwise known as encrypting) data when it is sent over a public network. The encryption process now makes the data unreadable. A strong VPN will ensure that only authorised users can access the network and that the data cannot be intercepted.

    A VPN will stop cyber criminals seeing your company’s remote service on the internet, therefore reducing risk of interception of communications between your employees and your network.

    Your devices

    Ensure you are protecting your devices whether it is your laptop, tablet or smart phone. Devices can be prime targets for cyber criminals as soon as you access the internet even more so when you are on a public network. A VPN will protect the data you send and receive on your device putting a stop to hackers watching your every move.

    With many VPN solutions out there make sure you do your homework to choose the right one for your needs.
