IT Infrastructure Upgrade

Business Moves Group (BMG) is an office and commercial relocation change management company, operating primarily out of the UK and offering high quality solutions to its clients’ individual needs and requirements.

BMG serves clients from offices in Reading, Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh and London. Offering a ‘Minimum Disruption’ service to the client and ensuring zero business downtime.

BMG approached Nouveau Solutions as they faced challenges with the day to day reliability of their IT Infrastructure and the support that was offered by their existing IT partner.

BMG runs a multi-site organisation based all over the country, with the requirement of running independent applications (specific to their industry) coupled with the usual applications that are required in a normal, day to day business.

Requirements
The company required a complete overhaul of their IT infrastructure and were looking to select a new partner to deliver all of their security and managed services requirements. It was also essential to have a smooth transition from their existing provider through to Nouveau Solutions in order that their customers were unaffected by the changes and enhancements that needed to be implemented.

What we implemented
We designed a new, private cloud infrastructure which incorporated a centralised server in a data centre with secure access from all sites.

A specific part of the new requirement was to have additional resilience built in using Microsoft Clustering Technologies, with the benefit of failover SANs, Network Switching and internet connectivity.

Nouveau implemented new internet connections and dedicated firewalls across the remote sites supported by secure VPNs accessing the data centre. The system was set up to use a farm of RDP servers on the front end in the data centre, providing access to standard office applications for all users.

Once these were installed, a full test plan was carried out on all data and applications before finally being migrated across to the new infrastructure across a weekend. Nouveau Solutions then took over the full control of the systems and support of the helpdesk facilities.

The changeover itself was seamless and many users did not notice any changes.  Users now have a service which has been brought up to date to handle the ever evolving challenges related to Information Technology.

Background
Somerset NHS Partnership is a Trust that has 60 sites spread around the South West and employs more than 4,000 staff. The Trust provides services from 13 community hospitals across the county.

As a large trust IT infrastructure and security is very important, particularly in light of the recommendations and reports made by Caldicott and Martha Lane Fox.

The Trust’s previous IT infrastructure consisted of a bank of aging Juniper Firewalls that the trust managed, but were nearing the end of life.

As part of an upgrade programme, the trust created a list of preferred Security Vendors to investigate how the trust could benefit from Next Generation Firewalls. One of the firewall vendors shortlisted was Fortinet who reached out to their Platinum Partner Nouveau Solutions to assist in the presentation of the security solution to the Trust.

Requirements
As a result of the programme, Nouveau Solutions identified that there was a requirement for rich security features across the trust such as web filtering, intrusion detection, anti-spam, sandboxing and load balancing all managed centrally – something that was very high on the requirement list.

What we implemented
Nouveau recommended to the trust the Fortinet Eco Security System which allowed the trust to explore different security options as the trust evolves, specifically focusing on protecting endpoints and databases in a joined-up manner.

The information technology team researched compliance and came to the conclusion that the Fortinet offering was the right solution, being impressed with the cutting edge technology and position in the Magic Gartner Quadrant.

Results
The completion of the project was in January 2016 and is working fantastically. The biggest advantage is the single management interface that allows all aspects to be managed effectively from one single part.

Background
Pentalver is a well-established transportation and logistics company that offers innovative container solutions. The company are experts in specialist haulage, container and storage services throughout the UK and overseas. Over the past 30 years, Pentalver have expanded through business growth and self-investment to become a leading provider of their container related services in the UK.

Its services are now provided via the UK’s four main ports, and a state-of-the-art inland depot in the heart of the Midlands. From there they employ over 600 staff and operate 80 acres across the five facilities and are dedicated to offering innovative container solutions.


Introduction
As part of a UK IT restructure review, upgrade and implementation, Pentalver required a solution that would not adversely impact on user productivity and simultaneously ensure compatibility across the company’s dispersed workforce. With the end goal of possessing a viable IT architecture that enables Pentalver business concept with aspirations of increased growth.
